The Municipality of Polanco proudly announces its recent reclassification as a First-Class Municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Norte. This significant achievement is a testament to the collective efforts of the local government and the entire community in fostering economic growth and sustainable development.
Polanco has actively participated in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) for the past six years, a prestigious ranking system organized by the Department of Trade and Industry. This continuous engagement has played a crucial role in benchmarking the municipality’s progress and competitiveness on both regional and national levels.
The reclassification is in accordance with Republic Act No. 11964, enacted on October 26, 2023, which institutionalizes the automatic income classification of local government units (LGUs). Under this law, municipalities are categorized based on their average annual regular income over the preceding three fiscal years, ensuring a systematic and transparent approach to classification.
In 2019, Polanco was ranked 385th in the CMCI. However, through steadfast governance, strategic planning, and active community participation of the LGU and its constituents, the municipality has made remarkable progress. Currently, Polanco ranks 55th among the Most Competitive Municipalities (3rd to 4th Class Municipalities Category) in the Philippines and holds the distinguished position of the number one municipality in Region IX, Zamboanga Peninsula. These rankings highlight the remarkable strides Polanco has taken toward economic and social advancement.
This momentous achievement signifies not only an increase in revenue but also the potential for greater funding and resources from the national government. As a First-Class Municipality, Polanco is now better positioned to enhance public services, improve infrastructure, and implement programs that will further uplift the quality of life for its residents. This milestone marks a new chapter in the municipality’s journey towards sustainable development, robust economic growth, and exemplary governance.
