The Municipality of Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte, marked a historic moment this year by celebrating the 127th Philippine Independence Day with an event that truly encapsulated the theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” (Freedom, Future, History). The event, which took place at the Polanco Public Kiosk, was a vivid representation of the nation’s struggle for freedom, its ongoing journey toward progress, and its rich historical heritage that continues to inspire Filipinos today.

The early morning of June 12, 2025, amidst the downpour of the rain, saw the gathering of various sectors of the community—students, government officials, military personnel, local leaders, and residents—who came together to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for the country’s independence. The solemn flag-raising ceremony was led by Polanco’s local government officials accompanied by a live singing of the Philippine National Anthem by Ms. Josephine Pastrano, with the colors of red, white, and blue reverberating through the plaza as the Filipino flag was hoisted high.

In his speech, Polanco Mayor Evan Hope D. Olvis emphasized the theme’s importance in reflecting on the struggles of the past while keeping an eye on the future. He also highlighted the importance of support and unity, especially in the transition of a new administration. As the program continued, esteemed guest speaker Polanco Municipal Police Station (PMPS) Deputy Chief PLt Randy Mahilum Lopez delivered his inspirational message, giving emphasis to the contribution of our national heroes in the nation’s hard-won freedom, which we benefit from up to this 20th century.

After hearing numerous words of wisdom from the local government officials and esteemed guest speaker, the event progressed with dance performances brought by the Bayle Filipina and a song presentation dedicated to our beloved nation that represents the culture of the Filipinos.

As the celebration of culture and heritage, reflection and unity, and the renewed commitment to nationhood, LGU officials, employees, and other government sectors having the same goal and vision for Polanco capped off the day. The theme Kalayaan—a tribute to our heroes, Kinabukasan—the road to progress, and Kasaysayan—remembering our past resonated deeply within the hearts of those present, urging every Filipino to take part in shaping the nation’s future, rooted in the historical struggles and triumphs that have paved the way for the freedoms they enjoy today, and a call to action for every Filipino to contribute to the country’s future while honoring its past.
